3rd Annual Talent Show

This April, MMSA hosted it’s third annual talent show. This year’s audience was entertained by amazing, talented students with acts that including singing, dancing, spoken word, and even a drumline performance. At the end of the night, the glory went to three of the judge’s favorite acts: dancers of the group JET (Jazmyne Ward, Erin Martin, and Trinity Simes) won 3rd place, Jonelle Wylie sang “Beautiful” by Christina Aguilera and won 2nd place, and placing 1st was Jada Sanders with another Christina Aguilera hit, “Reflection” from Disney’s Mulan soundtrack.

Elementary Library Day

On April 19th, the elementary children went down to the library and were read Franklin the turtle books by Franklin the turtle aka Ms. Langwald. Students worked on the computers on abcya.com and played educational games following what is being taught in class. Some classes were allowed to choose books of their choice off the shelves to read and they were then taught how to put them back in the correct places.

Senator Bieda Visits MMSA

On March 25th, Senator Steven Bieda came to MMSA to read to our Kindergartners and then spoke with our Ivy League students about life and career goals.

Steve Bieda is a lifelong resident of Macomb County. Raised in Warren, he attended Cousino High School, received his bachelor’s degree and Masters of Public Administration from Wayne State University, and later earned a Juris Doctor from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law as well as a Masters of Tax Law from Wayne State University Law School.

Elected State Representative for Michigan’s 25th District in 2002, Steve got right to work for the people of Macomb County and Michigan. He sponsored over thirty Public Acts on subjects ranging from the state’s tax structure, consumer protection, economic development and judicial reform. He authored the Legal Defense Fund Reporting act, the only major piece of ethics reform to reach the Governor’s desk in a decade, and fought for it over several legislative sessions until it became law. Steve supported comprehensive revisions to Michigan’s bottle deposit law to stop the flow of fraudulent containers from out of state, saving Michigan millions of dollars. Not one to shrink from a challenge, Steve was a driving force behind the replacement for the out of date Single Business Tax, replacing it with legislation that provided tax credits and incentives for businesses to grow and invest in Michigan while maintaining the flow of needed revenue. His expertise in financial management resulted in his appointment to the financial management review teams for the cities of Ecorse and River Rouge. Working closely with members of the legislative and executive branch, including the State Treasurer and the Governor, Steve’s record reflects the consistent pursuit of cleaner government, a cleaner environment and a stronger economy for the state of Michigan.

Career Day at MMSA

Our annual Career Day was held on March15th, 2013.

Over 20 guests visited our school to share information about their careers to our K-12 students. Some examples of careers presented were actor/writer, meteorologist, GM engineer, graphic designer, lawyer, police officers, fire fighters, and more! Both our professionals and students expressed their gratitude for the experience.

MDA Walk at Ford Field

The MDA Walk was held at Ford Field on March 23rd, 2013.

There were over 1000 people in attendance and MMSA had 9 attendees. The event and its contributors raised over $100,000 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. We were able to tour the team locker room and walk out onto Ford Field. It was an awesome experience, for a great cause!
